Role Purpose

To manage performance of primary logistics of contractors (aviation, marine and supply base) in terms of delivery, HSE and cost management, integration with Serica operations, innovation and collaboration.
 
To take ownership of logistics costs and assist budget holders in accurately forecasting and optimising expenditure.
 
To optimise materials and logistics strategies and delivery of services for aviation, marine, supply base, inventory and HMRC compliance. To design and implement an appropriate strategy for Serica for the movement of personnel and materials to and from work locations.
 
Be recognised as a subject matter expert in all aspects of Materials and Logistics management.

Main Tasks

  • Manage the delivery of external logistics companies to provide a cost effective flying, marine and warehousing service in support of evolving activities
  • Ensure Serica meets its customs and inventory obligations with HMRC
  • Optimise materials and logistics services in terms of Infrastructure utilised and locations
  • Aviation – flight schedules, supporting offshore operations and lowest total cost
  • Marine – fleet mix (fixed and spot vessels) sailing frequency and routing and sharing
  • Supply Base – location, operating method, lowest cost per tonne
  • Inventory – appropriate stocking policies disposal and verification
  • HMRC – cost effective compliance, including UCC requirements and record keeping
  • Articulation of Materials and Logistics philosophies, procedure and process
  • Ensuring the correct level of safety and quality is achieved by working in conjunction with the HSEQ function
  • Maintenance of management systems including Maximo
  • Stock materials, traceability and all necessary certification and documentation
  • Inventory management, checking and record keeping
  • Material coding and stock control
  • Incorporation into materials management systems, of capital equipment and spares delivered as part of  Capex Projects
  • Management of excess stock from Capital Projects into Serica inventory as required
  • Management of materials and equipment stored at third party facilities
  • Cost effective management of storage facilities
  • Management of materials customs status and documentation in accordance with current HMRC Regulations
  • Assistance with accurate transfer of stock materials between assets as required
  • Management and tracking of rental equipment
  • Disposal of excess/redundant equipment and materials
  • Organise On time delivery of all materials and equipment to warehouse and quayside for their assets
  • Liaise with Serica nominated customs agent and prepare customs clearance paperwork for import/export requirements as & when required
  • Confirm material requirements and due dates, and communicate the logistics plan at asset planning meetings and daily offshore calls
  • Prepare and issue consolidated agreed 48 and 24 hours load lists for each sailing
  • Maximise vessel utilisation and enable safe loading and unloading
  • Co-ordinate with vendors and Warehouse and Quayside to ensure on time delivery of materials and equipment to warehouse and quayside
  • Ensure that special transportation requirements such as wide loads and explosives are identified and communicated to Warehouse and Quayside
  • Arrange special deliveries of emergency materials in conjunction with the Aviation Supervisor
  • Adapt materials plan to minimise impact of unplanned events such as breakdowns and poor weather
  • Ensure that the required Serica safety, QA and training standards are followed
  • Raise vendor Non-Conformance Reports when required to improve vendor delivery performance
  • Liaise with Offshore representatives to ensure that there is offshore deck space available for outbound cargo
  • Liaise with Serica Procurement department as and when required and particularly where imported goods requiring customs clearance are involved
  • Provide out of hours on-call cover for logistics issues and emergency response as part of a rota
  • Comply with Materials Management processes and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Allocation of vessels and development of sailing schedule and vessel routing
  • Co-ordination of daily marine activities
  • Resolution of vessel capacity shortfalls, including shares and spot hires
  • Contingency planning of vessel movements in event of weather delays
  • Arrangement of vessel charters
  • Definition of long term material and personnel volumes and development of logistics forecast
  • To anticipate issues that might affect efficient operations and implement appropriate corrective actions
  • Educate stakeholders in the opportunities presented by effective logistics and materials management
  • Enrol stakeholders in supporting and optimising the strategy
  • Identifying and overcoming impediments to an optimum logistics strategy
  • Establishing an effective logistics strategy that can accommodate asset disposal/additions with minimal disruption
  • Building relationships with other operating and contracting companies to collaborate on services wherever economically advantageous
  • Exploit any industry initiatives which present opportunities for Serica
  • Develop a sound material management philosophy for Serica
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
 

Professional Skills

Essential:
  • Significant experience in managing analogous materials and logistics services for an operational organisation (preferably and Operator or Major Service Contractor)
  • Experience in co-ordinating the movement of goods to and from offshore assets in the North Sea
  • Experience in Customs clearance and in freight forwarding via land, air and sea
  • Working knowledge of offshore operations, particularly work execution and planning
Desirable:
  • Experience leading or managing a team

Education Requirements

Essential:
  • Degree level or equivalent
