Role Purpose

  • Provides control & instrumentation expertise to the operating asset
  • Responsible for day to day management of the asset protective systems
  • Provision of support to telecoms, metering and electrical as required
  • Provides reliability and production optimisation support to the operating asset
  • Supports delivery of asset process safety, integrity and environmental performance 

Areas of Responsibility

Geographical Span: Local – Bruce field operations
Profit and Loss: No – supports Opex budget definition
Direct Reports: No – oversee 3rd party work plan & budget
Extended Authority: Delegate to Facilities Engineering Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Travel Required: Offshore platform visits as required  

Main Tasks

People Management
  • Coaches, guides and works closely with instrument and other relevant-discipline technicians/ supervisors
  • Works closely with control & instrumentation, telecoms, metering and electrical support engineers
  • Provide cover and support for telecoms, metering and electrical engineering support as required
Operating Management System (OMS) & Operating Discipline
  • Ensures operating discipline on activities specific to the asset control & instrumentation   Engineering work to sustain safe, reliable and compliant operations
  • Ensures control & instrumentation engineering risks are understood, controlled and continuously reduced, to deliver safe operating results
  • Supports conformance with Serica and regulatory requirements
Risk Management, Process Safety and Integrity
  • Responsible for compliance to the relevant safety critical elements
  • Provides day-to-day support to the asset for issues associated with control & instrumentation
  • Risk assessment input where required
  • Ensures the related-engineering information is up to date in the asset risk register including actions and due dates
  • Ensures relevant controlled engineering documents are up-to-date
  • Ensure appropriate engineering codes, Serica Practices and standards are adhered to during any minor modifications and repair orders to the asset
  • Provides technical input on operations procedures where required
  • Monitor discipline-relevant engineering key performance indicators (KPIs)
Performance Management, Production Optimisation and Plant Reliability
  • Provides investigation input into asset defect elimination, initiates Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for production deferrals and identifies production vulnerabilities
  • Attends production meetings and perform responsibilities as defined in reliability processes
  • Participates and provides input into asset operations meeting cadence as required
  • Supports Facilities Engineering team to analyse asset performance data and to create interventions as required
  • Participates in improvement initiatives where relevant
  • Tracks and manages instrument and safety system defects, risks and vulnerabilities
  • Communicates lessons learned to Site Personnel
Planning & Efficient Execution of Work
  • Provides input to ensure gate criteria readiness for activities entering the asset schedule are met
  • Support the delivery of minor modifications and repairs
  • Cost management of the agreed budgets for activities assigned
  • Conducts self-verification on key operations and engineering processes and procedures as required
  • Follows up on Formal Technical Assessments (FTA) actions and observations from self-verification checks that are related 

Professional Skills

  • Experience in field instrumentation, process control and shutdown systems
  • Experience of Instrumentation Control Safety Systems including Fire & Gas
  • knowledge of discipline regulatory requirements, technical codes/standards/guidelines
  • Knowledge of new and emerging technology and innovation
  • Management experience of 3rd parties including budgetary preparation, cost control and contractual awareness
  • Demonstrates creative thinking and problem solving including generating innovative solutions
  • Knowledge and working experience of Prosafe-RS Fire & Gas Control Systems
  • Knowledge and working experience of Yokagowa Centrum CS3000 ICSS
  • Experience in metering/measurement/ analysing equipment
  • Experience of operations-critical telecoms systems
  • Previous Field Operations Experience
  • Ability to support Electrical Engineer as required

Education Requirements

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline
  • Chartered Engineer in a relevant discipline
