Role Purpose

  • Provides control & instrumentation engineering expertise to the operating asset
  • Provides oversight of 3rd party ops-critical telecoms and metering engineering and work activity
  • Provides support & guidance to the asset electrical engineer as required
  • Supports asset reliability and maintenance
  • Provides delivery of asset process safety, integrity and environmental performance 

Areas of Responsibility

Geographical Span: Local – Bruce field operations
Profit and Loss: No – supports Opex budget definition
Direct Reports: No – oversee 3rd Party telecoms and metering work
Extended Authority: Authority outwith job role - Delegate to Serica Control & Instrumentation Technical Authority
Travel Required: Offshore platform visits and Factory Acceptance Testing as required

Main Tasks

People Management
  • Coaches Control & Instrumentation Asset Support Engineer
  • Oversees 3rd party telecoms and metering engineering and work activity
  • Provides Support and Coaching to the Electrical Asset Support Engineering as required
Operating Management System (OMS) & Operating Discipline
  • Ensures operating discipline on activities specific to the asset control & instrumentation, telecommunications and metering engineering role to sustain safe, reliable and compliant operations
  • Provides input into OMS gap assessments
  • Ensures asset control & instrumentation, telecommunications and metering engineering risks are understood, controlled and continuously reduced, to deliver safe operating results
  • Supports conformance with Serica and regulatory requirements
Risk Management, Process Safety and Integrity
  • Responsible for compliance and updates to relevant Performance Standards
  • The development and ensuring the execution of relevant equipment maintenance strategies
  • Provides asset Instrument & Control, Telecommunications and Metering engineering support to asset operations
  • Ensures the engineering information is up to date in the asset risk register including actions and due dates
  • Discipline input and accountability of management of change procedure
  • Participates in risk assessments and longer-term asset engineering studies e.g. HAZOPs, LOPAs etc. where required
  • Provides technical input on operations procedures where required
  • Ensure appropriate instrument & control, telecoms and metering engineering codes, Serica Practices and standards are adhered to during modifications to the asset
  • Monitor and manage discipline-relevant KPIs
Performance Management, Production Optimisation and Plant Reliability
  • Provides input into asset defect elimination, initiates Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for production deferrals and identifies production vulnerabilities
  • Participates and provides input into asset meetings as required
  • Supports asset to analyse performance data and to create interventions as required
  • Participates in improvement initiatives where relevant
  • Participates in asset performance reviews when requested
  • Tracks and manages instrument and safety system defects, risks and vulnerabilities
  • Communicates instrument & control, telecoms and metering lessons learned to Site Personnel
Planning & Efficient Execution of Work
  • Provides input to ensure gate criteria readiness for activities entering the asset schedules are enforced
  • Delivery of minor modifications and repairs
  • Cost management of the agreed budgets for activities assigned
  • Performs relevant formal technical assessments of the SCE vs Performance Standard requirements
  • Conducts self-verification on key operations and engineering processes and procedures as required
  • Follows up on actions and observations from self-verification checks that are related to instrument & control, telecoms and metering engineering.  Provides support to electrical engineering as required

Professional Skills

  • Significant experience in field instrumentation, process control and shutdown systems
  • Experience in metering/measurement/ analysing equipment
  • Experience of operations-critical telecoms systems
  • Experience of Instrumentation Control Safety Systems including Fire & Gas
  • Expert knowledge of discipline regulatory requirements, technical codes/standards/guidelines
  • Expert Knowledge of new and emerging technology and innovation
  • Management experience of 3rd parties and package management including budgetary preparation, cost control and contractual awareness
  • Demonstrates creative thinking and problem solving including generating innovative solutions
  • Knowledge and working experience of Prosafe-RS Fire & Gas Control Systems
  • Knowledge and working experience of Yokagowa Centrum CS3000 ICSS
  • Knowledge of Electrical Engineering
  • Previous Field Operations Experience
